Rooms 234 and 235 have been hard at work learning about the engineering process the past week. The children have been given the challenge of building a boat to race down a rain gutter. They defined the problem and did research to develop possible solutions. The children created blue prints to design a solution and built a prototype to be tested. Ice skating notices from the gym teachers went home today. Skating will run for 5 weeks starting Thursday January 4th thru February 1st. Your child can bring skates or borrow them free of charge at the Ice Palace. The notice has a number of helpful hints for parents.
Parent Volunteers are Still Needed!
Chaperones are needed from 8:30-9:30 to assist the children with their skates and for skating instructions. If you can skate you can teach. Children are grouped according to ability (beginner, advanced, figure and hockey). Please return the volunteer form ASAP if you can help in any capacity.
In science we are exploring Earth's place in our universe. We have a particular focus on how the sun and stars move across our sky. We are exploring these mechanics with abstract and explicit models from many points of view. We are utilizing sun bracelets and sun dials. This week we explored an outstanding iPad app that allowed us to explore the sky in detail and track the sun's movements throughout the year. The free app can be downloaded here. Feel free to explore the sky and look at the stars that make up the constellations in detail.
